I believe that India is doing the best for the present situations. Diplomacy shown by India is to be appreaciated.
The problem is not whether US chooses between India or Pakistan......its whether India wants to be with US or not.
The reason is very plain. If we consider the recent developments in the relations between India and US; after Clinton had his visit here, it was obvious that US is trying to build good relations with India. In future (the moment its work is over in Afganistan) it tries to bend more towards India. why??? because of the resistence it gets from the Pakistani people against US. Its trying to establish its influence in this region - South Asia. It already reached a considerable success in this direction. Its efforts are obvious if we can remember the enthusiasm it showed in reconstuction of Afghanistan.Its (US's) objective is plain - establish the influence (which it couldn't do till now because of once upon the strong pole Soviet Union.) To reach its objective it will try to come closer to India.
The real threat is for India. More nearer are the big powers - less is the freedom a nation can enjoy. In every aspect the big power will play a role if we allow them to be close to us. This fear of India is shown in the efforts it has been putting to form a three nation coalltion. (India - Russia - Chaina. the local leaders). The recent visits of Indian ministers to Russia and Chaina... and the deals signed by India with Russia regarding "more sophisticated weaponary etc etc" would explain India's fear about the US's influence.The question is whether coallation of these three countries would remain strong in future.
On the other hand, a close relation with big power may help it over come some of its problems.
India is in a critical position...any move in any direction can cause chaos. The ball is in India's court.India must take a move....cautiously and diplomatically.
