General Forum: Current 'Affairs' | Should Reservations in India continue? | |
| Reservations are caste based;A sample like Ramvilas Paswan doesnot represent the whole situation of the section / state /India.
It's one of the eminity / aid for the poor.
India still has to compete with many other third world countries. As long as the brain has demand else where in the world let them not race for unncessary reasons.
In some other thread it was mentioned that in the Dravidians soceity there was no race. It is understood that particular sections or castes were kept out of race as they were not allowed to takepart in.

Only educated & well off among the castes are cornering the reservations depriving true upliftment of the intentions of reservations. The reservations bring complacency to improve by competetion as any way they are assured of getting into admissions, jobs and promotions without effort. The govt. should provide free education, boarding and lodging and allow them to compete. Then only true upliftment will come. Alternatively the family which got benefit once should made inelgible for reservation so that others in the same castes get the benefit.

A committee should be set up to honestly introspect and also scrutinize the present rules and regulations and should frame guidelines on 'How to see that the purpose of these reservations be served and also how to conclude them'.
Hope people be as spirited as they fight for independence to achieve this mission.
Posted by: Ms. Prasanthi Uppalapati At: 19, Jul 2004 12:41:48 PM IST When we got Independence, to be under 'Reserved' category is a sense of 'weakness'. To strengthen and work for their over all welfare, our national leaders categorised few sections as 'Backward' and provided 'Reservations' and clearly stated that these should be in vogue only for 10 years. But not satisfying with the result, our leaders going on prolonging this limit. Whether the purpose of giving 'Reservations' serve? Should Reservations continue in India? If so in what way and when should we put an end?
