In general threats are confronted using knights some time; Chess though is an individual game it was never played in that manner; Some times 5 X 5 a group; The full support is withdrawn without notice;
Oftenly they used to cut jokes

Chess great Emmanual Lasker once happened to visit a town in Russia and wanted to pass sometime at a local chess club. It was a small town and nobody actually had seen Lasker or his photograph before - so nobody knew who he was.
Lasker heard that one of the guys at the club was real good at chess and had a game with him and won it easily.
The loser guy then remarked "I'm sure you are a great player .. you cant beat me easily.. people over here call me LASKER OF THE TOWN!" :)

Another Chess superstar Alxeander Alkhine also had the habit of playing at chess clubs anonymously. He once picked a weak opponent and had a bet with him saying " A guy who plays the game without his knights will always win since a few squares will be free"
The opponent didnt agree .. so they had a game - Alkhine, being an all-time great played without Knights and won the game easily. And then Opponent played without Knights - and Alkhine deliberately lost.
This cycle went on for a few games and the poor opponent was totally convinced that a player who played without his knights on the chessboard had better chances of winning than the player who had them :)

a chess player went to a psycologist and complained
'doctor , when i play jokes no body laughs'
Doctor: " it's funny, you should take it
sportively, as all persons cant
become experts in all fields, so
you should try in your field "
Player: " doctor, actually it is not a
propblem. i have taken it easyly.
My actual problem is , when i play
chess everybody laughs !!!"
