dear system adminstrator, I beg to differ with you. After staying for almost 2 years in Guwahati, I have a different opinion about the insurgents. It is basically an organised mafia with no ideology. This problem is basically due to the attitude of assamese and complex demographic composition. Prime reason is economic. Assamese are basically very lethargic, laid back and unambitious but since 100 years after it became part of British India there was continous in flow of Bengalis especially from Bangladesh due to various reasons primarily economic- either for job or for tilling the soil. slowly they started capturing jobs as well as land this made Assamese marginalised in their own land this led to their resurgence movement which initially started with AASU (All Assam Students Union) which started anti- Bengali movements ever since 60's and the present outfit of ULFA formed only in late 70's and early 80's. Initially it came with a vision but latter on unscrupulous elements filled the ranks and files due to massive unemployment and easy money making. This lured the assamese youth into it. Now it is more or less a mafia. Later due to domination of Dominant communities like Ahoms, Kayasthas and Brahmins, differences have crop up among different assamese comunities. Organisations like BLT, KLO, etc have formed. Now Bengalis constituting around 30% are too big a group to counter. Further people's support in fading. Just to show their presence they are resorting to stray incidents of violence. This will continue till there is socio-economic and political inequalities. suresh

At least 35 passengers were seriously wounded today when a powerful bomb exploded in a bus in Assam. This is the second blast in two days. Late Wednesday, ULFA rebels lobbed a hand grenade outside a cinema hall in the eastern Assam town of Dibrugarh, killing a man and injuring at least a dozen more, including two policemen. The two blasts are the latest in a series of explosions in Assam targeting civilians. On Independence Day Aug 15, ULFA militants triggered a landmine explosion in Dhemaji town killing 15 people, mostly students. The ULFA is fighting for an independent homeland in Assam. More than 10,000 people have lost their lives to insurgency in Assam during the past two decades. Is there any permanent solution and can Assam be ever in Peace?
