a few more http://mailman.anu.edu.au/pipermail/link/2003-September/052434.html http://www.bitlaw.com/internet/webpage.html Defamation. The term defamation refers to a false statement made about someone or some organization that is damaging to their reputation. For a statement to be defamatory, the statement must be published to a third party, and the person publishing the statement must have known or should have known that the statement was false. The law of defamation is complex, as it has been determined by numerous court decisions rather than one national statute. In addition, a claim of defamation is subject to a variety of defenses, such as the First Amendment and (of course) the defense that the statement was true. Because of the complexity of defamation law, a full explanation of this area will not be set forth here, and is saved for others to provide. While the Internet provides a new context in which a defaming statement can be made and published, there is little new law relating to Internet defamation other than liability for service providers. Nonetheless, web page developers must be careful to avoid defaming someone in their pages. If a statement is being made that may damage the reputation of a person or organization, care should be taken to make sure that the statement is not defaming.

Hey Rowdy if such thing happpens in tp..who would take the first initiative man? Like if someone comes n says that i have robbed "Bank of America", even though it's for fun, and that got posted here as a flash news. What would happen? only the members within tp would know that..But a lot f hype n hoopla is required to spread this news among others, create a hype which seems real.i.e advertising..But, yeah if all goes right in this direction then , why not, tp will sure find itself entangled in a lawsuit. Even Bliss's thought seems right, in getting tp sued..but bliss will that be taken so seriously.. in today's world? because in a certain thread i've seen one person sayin "In this tp.com, people move around or spend time with other's wives.." leave around friend..he spelt out this abou other's wives .

Hey I'm not talking about the nature of offence here .. All I was trying to say was .. IF A PERSON HAS BEEN BLAMED FOR AN OFFENCE THAT HE NEVER COMMITED AND IF THAT STUFF IS PUBLISHED ON TP.COM, CAN THE WEBSITE BE SUED? (IF ITS A MAGAZINE, THEN IT CAN BE SUED FOR SURE)

If we belong to such genre of the society(murderers, robbers etcc) we won't be posting our actual profiles or details in here. so, i bet we'll be safe. But nay be as u said poor tp might face the consequences of it. this too depends on the admin people of tp..who knows i really rob a bank and post it here sayin the same..people may me take me crazy, zany, autistic etcc. So, even if we do such offences and post it here nothin materialistic will happen..i feel.lolz but we can prosper hiding ourselves in tp lolz

Well well .. there is a difference .. Talking shit about anyone is fine, because u were expressing your opinion .. if u call me a pig .. so be it .. its your opinion and i cant do a zilch about it but If you say that I looted a bank or killed someone then its a serious offence ..!!!

Hey Rowdy if thats the case somebody could have already sued tp.com and these guys inturn would have revoked my ID. i give two such instances 1. There was a thread calld "KCR Zindaabad", i went into that and just wrote some bullshit about this TRS leader...and that went off well. 2. When i first came into US 3 months back and created my ID in tp, i always used to speak bad about Balakrishna(so claimed Tollywood's star..do u know him?) if some article appears about him...even that went off well with this tp folks.. So, i think even if such a thing, which u said, happens in tp.com, the last thing these guys can do is remove that post or sometimes our ID. lolz rowdy even if we speak somethin bad about celebrities, who the hell has that much time to browse thru the net..that too tp.com, which's not that famous..what are the odds? i feel 1 in a Million..lolz..so no chance Rowdy..may be we have to try out that first, sueing tp.com..lolz

ME gud Janaki, thx .. Lolz .. I was just asking JUST IN CASE SOMEBODY IS DEFAMED ON THIS SITE, SAY SOMEBODY POSTS A MESSAGE LIKE "MANMOHAN SINGH KILLED RAJEEV GANDHI" and that thread goes on on and on with the people posting the stuff continuously .... and if Manmohan sees that material and decides to file a defamation suit .. can he file it against tp.com since there is no disclaimer on the site saying "Tp.com is not responsible for the posts of individual members" like other sites do ..!! In short, I was jsut asking if A defames B on TP discussion boards, can B sue tp.com for being responsible for publishing A's stuff?

Hey Rowdy..howdy u? Rowdy if u wanna sue tp.com on what grounds can u do it? or to be general on what grounds cna anybody sue tp.com? It isn't an illegal website containing some crude or badmaashi stuff. So i don't think it's possible..or may be one of the site admn's have to answer this to the point.lolz
