yeah BB is right and if u try to stop a sneeze (when it is at peak moment to come out),ur heart bursts...as it has more than 100 times of pressure of a cyclone.

its got a scientific reason behind it. while sneezing, our heart stops for a while and blood pressure shoots up for a moment. so our body will go out of control at that moment. just to make sure that we become alright, we were suggested to sit for a while and relax(drinking water takes a bit of time, we can relax in the mean while). its not just a simple superstition.
