The student is responsible ! He is selecting his studies, hobbies, interests everything that related to his life.

I wish some voluntary organisation or a retired lecturer **in every single town / village** start a personality training course for these type of shy students and their parents. This will not only make the youth stronger - it will create good citizens.

The Site Admin asked: "Whom do you think are responsible? Senior Students or Management?" In my opinion, none of them are responsible. It's Parents... I am sorry to say this - but it's the hard fact. Parents need to make their kids strong in certain things - personality, individuality etc. Not just marks, study and ranks. I am really sad that this guy is 19 years old, but still could not stand ragging. All Parents, please treat your kids as your friends and teach them certain basic things in their life. Studying too much and getting top ranks alone will not make them happy in their life. As we know a "good boy" means he don't even talk to a girl, he won't go to a movie without his parents permission etc. etc. But is this approach correct? Parents - tell your kids that the life and the world is so big and wide. One need to be a gold medalist to be successful in their lives. There are many movies coming these days to educate people in this direction - but still, parents think that their children should be quiet, calm and study all the time. Whether it's a boy or a girl, teach them how to face the world. Encourage them to participate in discussions, sports, school elections etc. etc. If your boy or girl approaches you with a complainst against somebody, tell them and teach them how to face them. If you complain to the authorities, or file a case against others, problems wont be solved. Instead of expecting the whole world to be friendly with your kid, just teach him/her how to face others. Start this from their childhood. I am really sad for Mohan Karthik and his parents. I wish some voluntary organisation or a retired lecturer start a personality training course for these type of shy students and their parents.

There should be some anti-ragging committe(one person from management and senior students,as we used to have in our college) to keep check on ragging. Ragging upto certain extent is enjoyable..if it crosses limits, leads to depression in some students and they take these kind of extreme steps...but ending life is not the solution for everything!!

Indeed, it is purely Management that is responsible...Management needs to take all sorta actions abt this... (I donno abt the situation these days in my college but when I was studying, there was no ragging coz management took all necessary precautions to avoid ragging...)

Is it true that some freshers enjoy the ragging and the period just by singing, dancing and entertaining themeselves as well as so called seniors. Some talented like mimicry artists do engaged continuously until the freshersday celebrations. Those who are suffering from inferiority complex can mingle with the society and challenge the problems. Those who are of much complexity of dependency what sort of nature of behavior can be expected??? Too much shy, timidness, and being afraid of atrangers can lead into similar tragedies or to better results??? It is not clear what sort of help he wanted from his parents, coleagues or college staff???

The 19 year old Mohan Karthik, a student of Srinivasa and K Ramadas Engineering College at Poonamallee, ended his life by hanging to a window. He had complained to the college correspondent that the seniors were constantly ragging him ever since he got admission in the college a couple of months ago. According to the police, Karthik hanged himself as the college authorities took no action to protect him. Karthik had returned home twice and had decided to leave the college because of ragging by two senior students. But his father, Mr. Tripati, convinced Karthik and complained to college authorities about the ragging. According to Tripati, his son committed suicide due to the negligence of the management. Tripati had booked cases under the TN Ragging Act and allied charges against Venu Madhav and Bhargav, Karthik’s seniors. Whom do you think are responsible? Senior Students or Management?
