General Forum: Govt. and Politics | "Courts always recognized Parliament's supremacy". ..Speaker!? | |
| Few years ago, there was a speaker from South (may be from Tamilnadu?), who declared that once one is elected a speaker, he would be lifelong a speaker (even if the Assembly/Parliament is dissolved)!

Posted by: Mr. Vachaspathi V At: 13, Apr 2005 4:54:45 PM IST Ade mari .. if a BJP leader is refused US visa, its welcome .. and if a communist leader is forced to undergo security checks at the airport, does it a crime?
Not just Fernandez or Somnath, many ppl flying into the US from the Asian region do undergo various security checks post 9/11 ..
I strongly suggest such checks in India too.
Also, I'm sure every guy/gal who takes a United Airlines Domestic flight in the US would be asked to remove his/her shoes, belt, jacket etc (I never flew American or AAA .. so wouldnt know what its like)

now Honourable Speaker Somnath Chatterji wants Australian Govt. to exempt him from Airport Checking by Australian Authorities!!
....It's not the question of exemption Kiranji. Chatterjee is the President(Speaker) of Lok Sabha (House of Representatives). Let he boycott the Australia, if Australia exempted from checks! Fernandes too faced this kind of humiliation in the hands of US authorities, he might have returned back from the Airport itself! But he went ahead to tour that country. manamu kuDA vALLa Secretary of State baTTalUDadIsi ekkaDa baDitE akkaDa annI taDimi taDimi check chEstE...amerikAki elavunTundi!
Posted by: Mr. Vachaspathi V At: 12, Apr 2005 10:18:28 AM IST Really supreme court did not interfere with the Jarkhand Issue till Moonda filed a petetion in the court. Till then the Lok sabha did not take any initiative on Governor's action though at a later stage condemned the Governor's action. I do not understand why the Honourable speaker takes it serious on court's intervention under the above circumstances.
Judiciary actions will be always with in the purview of Constitution binding to the laws framed.
Yes I too agree with the views of AA & VV
Posted by: Mr. VIRABHADRA SASTRI KALANADHABHATTA At: 26, Mar 2005 7:22:29 PM IST I too feel the same VV gaaru..as long as the judiciary actions are within the pruview of constitution...no problem appears to be as matter fo concern. judiciary can be a check point to remind legislature of its duties. not completely crystallised thoughts yet. lemme know if soemthing worng in ur opinion
Posted by: Mr. Aandhrudu At: 25, Mar 2005 2:05:46 AM IST This refers to the news,"Balance of Power may get affected, say Presiding Officers", and "Courts always recognized Parliament's supremacy". Mr.Somnadh Chatterjee's opinion that the Supreme Court and the High Court has consistently recognized the Supremacy of the Parliament and the Legislative Assemblies in a number of cases, is debatable. Every Political Science Student and lawyer in India believes that in India the Constitution is Supreme and the People of India are sovereign and Judiciary in India is the last resort for justice in Indian democracy. When the Legislatures became just like market places of shouting and playgrounds for winnings the games and waste public money, judiciary bound to intervene. If the Politicians and the Political parties act in a dignified way while debating the issues in the Legislatures, Governors and speakers too take proper decisions. Quite often Speakers' photos published in various dailies pleading members for normalcy and order in the house.
