General Forum: Current 'Affairs' | Terri Schiavo's case - Is it a violation of rights? | |
| i read this in a local news paper
Both sides accused each other of being motivated by greed over a $1 million medical malpractice award from doctors who failed to diagnose the chemical imbalance. However, that money, which Michael Schiavo received in 1993, has all but evaporated, spent on his wife's care and the court fight. Just $40,000 to $50,000 remained as of mid-March. Michael Schiavo's lawyers suggested the Schindlers wanted to get some of the money.
The parents tried to have Michael Schiavo removed as his wife's guardian because he lives with another woman and has two children with her.
Michael Schiavo has refused to divorce his wife, saying he feared the Schindlers would ignore her desire to die

On one hand, It churns deep inside, to know that somebody has been forced to die, whatever might be the conditions --
On the other, it feels slightly better to see her getting relieved from the painful life and the perpetual suffering.

I was lil sympathetic towards his cause since I thought hez one role model of a husband whoz dedicated to his wife even while she was braindead. Now I understand he didnt divorce her because he couldnt ...!!!!!
Posted by: Malakpet Rowdy At: 31, Mar 2005 10:29:23 PM IST It was not a solution set by the nature... Terri died because her feeding tube was removed.
In other words she was left to die, although she didnt know about it.
Posted by: Malakpet Rowdy At: 31, Mar 2005 10:26:17 PM IST Terri Schiavo's case eventually ended up with the inevitable -A slow and (in)famous death on thursday.
Just a brief background - Terri Schiavo collapsed after a massive heart attack in the early 90's and has been in a state of brain-death ever since then. A few years ago, her husband Michael Schiavo wanted her only source of life (the feeding tube) to be removed, claiming that she wanted to die but her parents claimed it was his plot to kill her.
As NBC says, the case had spent seven years winding its way through the courts, with Terri Schiavo's parents repeatedly on the losing end - The courts almost always ruled in Michael's favor. Federal courts were given jurisdiction to review Schiavo’s case after Republicans in Congress pushed through unprecedented emergency legislation aimed at prolonging her life. But federal courts at three levels have rebuffed her parents.
and TERRI DIED TODAY.
Do you think it is a case of the violation of "Right to Live"?
