But it is really sad to see a party which created confidence that it is a party of difference failed so pathetically. Once I admired them and had some hope.

RSS & VHP do maintain a count of people who attend any of the major events and I dont think one needs statistical tools for simple arithmatic - (This is a counting exercize - Not sampling) Every Shakha that sends volunteers counts exactly how many people officially moved and these numbers will be aggregated (not extrapolated) at the Bagh and the higher levels. The Prachaaraks, Mukhya Sikshaks and even Bouddhik Pramukhs pertaining to those Shakhas are responsible for various activities realted to this exercize. So Ever leader knows how many people exactly are inhis team and at the end of they day he is supposed to submit the number to the higher-ups. Obviously RSS is not ISO 9001:2000 certified and these things are deliberately not documented in order to avoid legal issues. These activities are carefully planned and executed. The Sarsanghchalak always has the exact count of the number of people participated in a specific activity. For 1989 and 1992 Karsevas they hand-picked people belonging to the backward communities (may be itz a show-off) to make sure that proper demographic balance is maintained. I know three teams that left from AP which had upto 80% OBC representation.

Me said, "It might cater for intellecutual, religious or emotional need of certain higher sections of hindu society. ( Do not read only brahmins)" I said, 'it might', I didnt say 'it only'. I made a probable statement. Why I made that statement? I feel, VHP, RSS and the alliances, failed to unite hindus on the ground of ramajanmabhoomi. If majority of hindus were united, Rama temple have been built by now, I guess. I feel they should embrace those backward communities, who feel outcasted and who are confused about their , and give them proper position. That strengthens hindu religion, as a whole. I am interested about that VHP internal count. How did they come up with those figures? did they register the karasevakas and their casts? What statistical tools they used? This numbers might change some theories. I guess you dont eman reading history is waste. We get facts from history, and most of the times we might get close to facts. These different schools, give different interpretations to facts. Thaswhat we have to analyze. And i am puzzled at "your pet peeve brahmins". When did i ever make any anti-brahmin or brahmin annoying comments? I am poorly equipped, to venture about ramajanmabhoomi or BJP, thatswhy I said, I am not part of this discussion. My last 2 cents.

Posted by: Ms. Prasanthi Uppalapati At: 19, Jun 2005 11:47:30 PM IST If Advani wanted a Debate he would have made that statement on Indian Soil, long ago and the statement could have been "Even a Chauvinist like Jinnah was more Secular than Nehru" .. Well .. but one perspective was that BY Calling Jinnah Secular when, infact, Jinnah was not .. Advani rubbed Salt on the Wounds of Pakistani History -- thought it doesnt sound too convincing

From Creating a Nationality, by Ashis Nandy, Shikha Trivedy, Shail Mayaram and Achyut Yagnik, Oxford University Press, 1995 & A Rediff Post _____________________________________________ Never before in the history of the temple movement had the BJP-VHP-Bajrang Dal combine managed to collect such large crowds at Ayodhya on their own. At the final count, an estimated 200,000 persons came from all the states of India barring those in the North-East, a large proportion of them drawn from the RSS cadres. Everyone could not join the karsevaks; severe controls and preliminary screening were introduced by the RSS. It was not a purely spontaneous show put up by the faithful, but a tightly organised, fully planned political exercise. The largest representations were from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka and UP. And this time round, the composition of the karsevaks differed from that of the earlier gatherings at Ayodhya. There was a heavy turnout of women, dalits, and tribals and the 'backward' castes. Besides, a large number of karsevaks were drawn from the rural areas.

Also, Do you have any statistics supporting your claim that RamJanmabhoomi issue only interests "certain higher sections of hindu society" (Read Brahmins) and nobody else?

VHP's internal count puts it around 50-60% OBCs some 4-5% Dalits and the rest Upper Classes. (It doesnt include the people whose Bodies were throwin into the Sarayu River after the Killings) Forget correction .. I feel even Reading History is waste of time since we aint sure who is correct andnobody gives any solid proof!

How many backward community people, how many forward community people, do you have any statistics? Exactly my point is no point going about correcting history
