General Forum: Current 'Affairs' | Soccer-style substitution in one-day matches: Cricket will loose its identity with the new changes. | |
| Only time will tell, i think there will be lot of confusion also, becoz u never know the actual team at any time, i think there was proposal to have 12 players instead of 11. I don't know what is the status on that. Likewise, the over restriction can be at any stage of game, it will be having its bearing on the playing conditions and adjustments to be made by the batsman and fielding side. I don't know , if these changes were really needed. There is already lot of excitement in one dayers today, the change was not really needed.

But the new changes made to allow substitutes onto the field in one-day matches could change the face of the cricket. The International Cricket Council has approved the recommendations regarding substitution and field restrictions in the one-day international cricket adding a "tactical dimension" to the format making it more exciting. Under the new rules, the soccer-style substitution will be permitted which will allow sides to replace a player at any stage of a match. The replaced player will be ruled out of the rest of the match while the substitute will start afresh assuming any remaining batting or bowling duties. There will also be an increase from 15 to 20 overs of restrictions. Unlike the present system, the new set-up means they will apply for the first 10 overs of every innings plus two additional blocks of five overs, which must be selected by the fielding captain. The ICC cricket committee headed by Sunil Gavaskar and comprising former international cricketers recommended the changes. What is your say on these changes? Discuss
