General Forum: Current 'Affairs' | Linking Up of Rivers-Why We Don't Want To Do This? | |
| The Govt should take a firm decision to link up all revers, now it is possible, when compared to bygone days now the techonology improved, mammoth Earth Moving Machinery is also available ,as shloo said now a days water is so precious, we r buying it during summer months even for usage ,its all depends on politicians and policy makers,it is not too late, the politicians should open their eyes and should take much interest to use the water available in the country for irrigation effectively.
Posted by: Mr. Bhaskar At: 4, Aug 2005 3:18:53 PM IST Definitely it is a good job.During rainy seasons the river water is left in seas.During summer we see people die for water.
Crores of rupees is spent on roads ,highways, flyovers in cities .Cant we spend some amount to build canals ,pipes(huge) (by linking rivers) to bring water to remote areas where people depend on agriculture.
Infact Mr.chandrababunaidu 's time he proposed to dig huge depression in the backyards of houses/offices--- and lay pebbles, soil on it inorder to store rain water in the earth .
"Water is precious"---------- we pay huge amount for this advertisement in tv?

Posted by: Mr. Pit and the Pendulum At: 3, Aug 2005 10:03:00 PM IST Unpardonable blunder indeed!
KLRao was one person who had the vision.
But many of the North-Indian politicians did not have sufficient brains to understand this grave problem since 1950s.
Even today, things are no better.
There can be a forum to present this case in the parliament. Unfortunately, we cannot expect much from the present set of MPs from AP, who are busy otherwise.
Only a set of self-less intellectuals can again propose some pragmatic approach so as to avoid wastage of water.
Posted by: SATYA RAMA PRASAD KALLURI At: 3, Aug 2005 6:49:53 PM IST We know the spate of rains, we had in different places all over India. While, mostly it is flooding in one part, while it is drought in other part of the country. Now, mumbai is reeling under floods. Likewise, in AP , we are having water overflowing in some places and we are having acute drinking water crisis in some other places like vizag, and other places in AP etc. Our ex-prime minister wanted this to happen. I dont know further wht has happened on that? Assam is always in spate ,as bramaputra always creates a havoc during rains.
In just one day on July 31, 84 tmc ft of Godavari water was let off into the sea. This is almost equal the gross capacity of Sriramsagar project, 90.313 tmc ft. Each tmc ft is about 28.5 litres of water. In a full year, about 3,000 tmc ft of water, 4.5 times the total capacity of Nagarjunasagar (gross capacity 406 tmc ft) and Srisailam (263 tmc ft) flows waste down the Godavari. Given the copious rains upstream of the Godavari in Maharashtra, the wastage could be significantly more this time.
Why, we cannot do a better job and ensure to have good water resources all over india by linking these rivers?Though we need to spend quite some money on this, it will be a worth while project for the future.
