General Forum: Current 'Affairs' | Chief Minister YSR declines to accept a cheque for Rs.11.67 Crore from Volkswagan citing CBI probe as the reason. Should government accept the money? | |
| Taking the blame by Volkswagon/Germany, Returning the Cash as a prestagious issue, and AP Govt's decline is all only clear-cut DRAMA.

Posted by: Mr. Krishna Murthy N. At: 10, Sep 2005 1:37:29 PM IST Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy declined to accept the demand draft of Rs 11.67 crore from German automaker Volkswagen. The CM does not want to take back the money when the Central Bureau of Investigation probe is under progress. YSR is aiming at higher stakes for securing Volkswagen car project in the port city of Visakhapatnam.
But many argue on the YSR’s decision to decline the cheque. What harm could have occurred if the demand draft had been kept by the State government without being encashed for the time being? Volkswagen special envoy Frank Elbe appreciated the State government’s gesture and reiterated the company’s strong interest in VW India project in Andhra Pradesh. Should Chief Minister have to make a distinction between getting VW plant in AP and the Vasishta Wahan fraud? Discuss.
