Posted by: Mr. Vachaspathi V At: 20, Sep 2005 6:08:39 PM IST Now, it's Modi's turn!!
Mr.Advani declared his demit as expected. Like Mr.Advani, Mr.Modi too must resign from the Chief Minister ship holding the responsibility for the failure to curb the mass murders in Gujarat. But now whoever becomes the party President of the BJP need to rebuild and reshape the party’s image and cadre from the rambles as the interpersonal relationships within the party are at cross-roads. Due to the tussle between Mr.Advani and the RSS, the second-rug leaders have been pushed into darkness from the mainstream. After the ‘shock’ given by Mr.Advani’s statement about Jinnah, the BJP must disclose it’s so called ‘ideology’ as it openly claims that it’s an ‘ideologically driven’ party. Was the demolition of the Babri Masjid ‘ideologically driven’? Is Mr.Advani’s active support to Mr.Modi ‘ideologically driven’? Are the internal tussles and ever conflicting statements by the leaders ‘ideologically driven’? After all, what is the ideology of the BJP? Cultural nationalism by the RSS could lead to fascist tendencies in the long run. More over it’s outdated and medieval also. Hence, it’s better for the BJP and the RSS to liquidate its ‘Cultural Nationalism’ and switch-over to Aurabindo’s ‘Spiritual Revolution’ as it encompasses all the sections and could liberate India from the dogmas.
Posted by: Mr. Vachaspathi V At: 19, Sep 2005 10:01:12 AM IST The BJP's national executive meeting at Chennai is at its tail end, and there are still murmurs that party President L K Advani may formally announce his plans of demitting office.
Yet, Advani has not done or said anything to confirm this rumour. He has held the post of party chief five times in the 25-year history of the party.
However, he has recently come in for a lot of criticism within the party as well as from the RSS.
The first time he faced flak was after his remarks on founder of Pakistan Mohammad Ali Jinnah on his trip to Pakistan, and more recently for his involvement in BJP leader Madan Lal Khurana's expulsion and his subsequent return to the party.
Many say that the latest turn of events has reduced Advani's stature within the party.
Pros and cons
However, Vajpayee had yesterday asserted that Advani will continue both as party president and leader of opposition, thus virtually ruling out Advani's imminent exit.
Party spokesperson Sushma Swaraj also diplomatically answered that she had no knowledge about his plans to retire in December or any announcement today.
But there are also compelling reasons for not making the decision public right now.
For one, it would mean leading the party in Bihar as an outgoing president, and also that he's giving into pressure from the Sangh and his detractors.
Also, going public now may trigger a fresh round of chaos.
"The danger is that it reopens the question of what next, so it's all about timing," said Swapan Dasgupta, political analyst.
No one knows except Advani himself about what will happen until he gives his closing remarks today.
