General Forum: Current 'Affairs' | Coach Greg Chappell declares Ganguly as unfit to lead Indian cricket team. Should Ganguly be sacked? | |
| NASSIR.. make it Malak (From Hyd)
Posted by: Malakpet Rowdy At: 30, Sep 2005 9:18:28 PM IST When Tendulkar was suspended in SA, Ganguly was leading the team.
Ganguly's prime responsibilty is to win the matches for India and he has won 21 out of 49 tests he captained. (Incidentally Greg Chappell won 21 out of 48).
If Ganguly is aggressive then so be it .. I always loved it when he gave back those Aussie and British sledgers, a taste of their own medicines.
5000 runs in Tests at the Average 41+ (12 Centuries)
10,000 runs in ODIs at the average of 40+ (22 Centuries)
If this aint good performance, what else is?

Like poles repel and hence Chappel and Ganguly.
Posted by: Mr. Indian proud At: 27, Sep 2005 8:53:08 PM IST I agree with many of the statements given by our friends.
Ganguly was best in some occasions.
There were very few players played for India who could win the game single handedly and no doubt ganguly was one of them.
We can currently visualize that he is struggling in all forms of the game. He is trying to regain his old form by taking bowling now and then and changing his order etc.,
Normally australian people are very harsh in their behaviour comapred to others and coming to India the harsh race generation would be mostly from bengal and tamilnadu as far as my experience goes.
My answer to the question is 'NO' (he should not be sacked basing on chappell's statement).
But Ganguly should be RESTed and let him prove himself to get back into the team.
It happend with Azar, Dravid and some of the key players of India.
Normally two like pole repel and the same is happening over here.
Posted by: Mr. Indian proud At: 27, Sep 2005 8:51:06 PM IST Coming to playing politics, who didn't do it? On no. of occasions, we have seen Sachin supporting Vinod Kambli even though he was consistently failing.
We also know how Kapil extended his retirement till he got his record breaking wicket. Thanks to Azharuddin.
Chappell's immaturity in coaching an international side is quite evident in this episode. Why John Wright never had any problems in dealing with such issues. Weren't there any such problems during his tenure?

...
Kiranji,
Let we don't support no individual.
For the better show from Ganguly he must be aloof of all the controversies. Chappel may be an outsider, just appointed as the Coach. But whatever his background he is genius in Cricket in all the departments. A coach must visualise the weaknesses of the team. John Write, a New Zealander, is a good organiser that's why he was able to cope up with the diseases differently. But Greg is different. He is from Australia in which Cricket is a profession.
It's better for the Ganguly to give a fitting reply by showing his old vigour....as a batsman and fielder as Kapil Dev proved himself even after getting out from the Captaincy. He worked better even under his Junior, Azharuddin.
In fact, cricket fans in India want Kapil to extend his retirement for his record. Because of it an Indian achieved a big and first feet in taking the highest number of wickets.
WE NEED TO HAVE A HEALTHY CRICKET IN HEALTHY ATMOSPHERE, not controversies. Ganguly is doing what Gavaskar did in past. If Gavaskar was selfish, Ganguly is egoistic plus well known by his aristocratic behaviour both on and off the field.

Each will present their own view before it.
But it's better for the Ganguly to take rest from Captaincy and concentrate on his game as he may be spending some sleepless nights. In Kolkata some people are demonstrating in support of Ganguly and in Bangalore people are showing placards against him. He almost made his Captaincy a political issue!! It's a tragedy of Cricket. Indians cherish Cricket because of the sons of the soil like Kapil Dev, Mohinder Amaranadh, Srikkanth etc. He Ganguly want's to be remembered in India as an Cricket Icon, he must step down and contribute to cricket in his own way of play. Cricket in India is above Greg Chappel and Ganguly, it's simply more than that. Ganguly's captaincy is a petty issue regarding cricket as as a Captain only he contributed his own to Indian team. History have already recorded it.
