yep Croc, there you go again with the centralized system and that would be one hurricane away from a disaster! ;-) /But, what would the poor guys like you and me who cannot afford a flying car do? *L*/ I guess we'll just drive on the road under them and wait till one of 'em rich boys drops something on us and sue his nuts off! :D /Tekku, did you read about superconductors at room temperature, and levitation that can be possible because of that? Maybe 'fly' is just an extension of 'run'/ I know about magnetic levitation and trains running a few inches off the ground, can that be considered flying? I am trying to imagine whether it would be possible at all to have flying cars, not just from a technology point of view but from managing and following the system. I thought I would see some creative posts on this, but looks like we're busy in other fantasies! :P and maybe its time to move on to a non-techy subject!

haha Naayak ji, its been a while since we saw a new Bond movie! :-) Shaloo - machines gotta run on some source, right? Even if it has attached-wings! Coming to pushpaka-vimaanam, are they doing research on this? Yeah, may be for a fiction-flick. If they can discover pushpak, I think they'd invent angel wings way before 3000! :-) Thats another topic Prasanthi garu, but my immediate thoughts are-nothing would change because we'd still do what we feel right in that situation and hence it could seem wrong in the future and we'd be pondering again, "What if.....we can go back again to the past" :-)

Moving on... Lets see how this goes!! What If.....the cars could really fly? How would the roadways, err excuse me, airways be designed? How would they take off? Would they take off like an helicopter or would they need a small runway to take off and land? Or will it cause so much of confusion in the air that they will be banned for good? :P What can it lead to, personal bat-mobiles? Flying power in your backpack? Man has always aspired to fly like a bird, but the closest we came to is the kite and that humongous airplane; chopper was a go-between that came from the dragon-fly but still it does give the man the feeling of a bird, can we ever fly? As much as it might solve today's congestion problems, the complexity of such an adventure seems to be mind-boggling! Will this ever happen, atleast by year 3000 or would we be more worried abt Y3K then!? :-) Let imaginations fly, for the time being!

Receiving a microwave is fine, but the sustenance is doubtful as any interference might just render the device dead. Also, open distribution, and hence free, of any signals/waves isnt that feasible and it can be tapped easily. On the other hand, just read that some new technologies are fast developing to replace conventional batteries, like fuel cells and the best part is it uses hydrogen and air as fuels. I think this is getting too technical, let me see if any non-technical topic can induce some interest here.

Correct me if I am wrong, but for any device to transmit or receive it needs a power source so a cell-phone cannot receive a power if it does not have a 'power' to receive/respond to the incoming signal! Same thing for pacemakers... things cannot automatically work unless driven by an external/internal energy, be it a power source, mechanical(watches/clocks working through coil and spring action). But confining a source within buildings also confines the recipient indoors! Also microwave can generate lot of radiation! Phosphoresence from light source? hmmmm For cars, I'd just give it a kick-start handle to the car, if it does not work, just tilt it half-way...and sing 'hamara bajaj' :-) Corded remotes-haha, sounds ironic! The ones that I mentioned are just a few of many things that would be affected, feel free to post what you think would have changed.

This it to bring out the creative ideas from all of us and have some fun here. Here, we will come up with 'What If....' topics. E.g. What If the Wheel was not invented? I know this would be a major topic and we cant imagine our lives without the invention of wheel because so many things would not have been possible without it, let alone the vehicles, motors etc. Ever imagined how a bullock cart would run with square wheels? :D We will choose some easy topics and see how much creative we can get to predict things with/without a certain feature/facility/privilege/invention/discovery etc. In a very remote way, this could help us think about various possibilities of unknown discoveries!! - my 2 cents! Treat this as a fun discussion, nothing too serious. I hope at the least the like-minded would participate here! Any other ideas are most welcome! :-) For starters, 'What If...the Batteries were not invented?' How would it have affected our lives today? The cars would have to be kick-started? The pace-makers(for heart patients) would not be there? No more remote controls? No more cell phones? Or will they be designed to run on gas(petrol)?
