IIt can't contribute more compared with full time politicians as they are deviating from the mains. It's something a Doctor becoming an actor. If they want to join politics better give the chance to someone else who is intrested in engineering. IIT's are meant for producing engineers & scientists but not the politicians.
They can be nominated to MP (Rajya Sabha). Moreover all civil services are highly qualified & experienced intelectuals only.
This hope might have triggered after the selection of Dr. Abdul kalaam as President Of India.

It sounds a lot like Mani Ratnam's Yuva. Disillusioned by the existing system, five idealist IIT-ians have floated a political party, Paritrana. Shirking plum multinational jobs to make room for them selves in the political arena, the already-famous five are now spreading their wings. Campaigns in Rajasthan, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are on the cards and online expansion is underway.
