Hello Friends, Good Morning/Evening. You or your friends/relatives/family members/colleagues might have donated thru Eenadu Helpline or responding to any news item on web or print media. Eenadu Helpline is doing very good by sharing the news of the needy people. After handling two or three cases and out of those experiences, I jotted down my thoughts. I will be meeting a sub-editor there the coming saturday between 1pm and 3 pm (most probably). I might be immature or impractical with respect to my ideas. But I am enthusiastic and feel that if we can do something concrete, we can address the needs of genuine cases. The following are my views: Please go through and also come up with your suggestions/views and ideas by this friday. ============ 1) To what extent Eenadu takes responsibility with respect to proper use of funds by the needy people? Do the reporters check up again anytime? 2) Why not Eenadu think in more concrete terms to get the needy people be cured thru the local hospitals instead of giving money directly to the people? (I think hospitals may consider doing the operations or checkup or giving treatment at half the actual cost if Eenadu comes up with a proposal). Whatever be the amount donated for the person will be given to the hospital directly towards the expenses. 3) Also why not to provide contact details of the person when posting the news itself? <<There is a genuine reason behind it as the cases belong to the very poor people, they do not have proper address leave alone telephone and email.>> 4) Also please keep the archives, with respect to Helpline, open. All browsers may not be interested to register, login and then check. So consider maintaining Helpline Archives open so that any browser can check them without a need to login. Actually this happened with the case which we took up. The father of the girl didn't spend the money he received towards the girl's treatment saying different story each time. We even paid their travel expenses to hyderabad from their place. She used to come regularly for checkup every month. (This is just to bring to your notice but not to post. I wish to explain the actual situation we faced. But to see to that the girl gets the required treatment and medication, we did spend the money for the cause). So I request Eenadu helpline to think in this way also and do little more, take much care. Please discuss this with the concerned authorities. Instead of giving money directly to the needy persons, give the money to the educational institutions or hospitals directly and if Eenadu places a proposal, the institutions may voluntarily come forward to consider 50% discount in their services with respect to such cases. or else if Eenadu do not want to take that responsibility it can extend it the same to any NGO organization. 5) How many of the donors actually request for the follow up? Do they ask anything more other than whether the money has been given to the needy? These are just my views. Please consider if you find them applicable. ============ I await your responses eagerly. Also discuss with any of your friends/colleagues who sent donation for Eenadu Helpline.
