An Ankanam is a unit of measure similar to an acre. It is used mainly in regions of Andhra Pradesh, India - Nellore and Tirupathi. An Ankanam is measured as 72 sq ft (6.7 m2), (mostly in the Nellore District) and, in some places (such as Tirupathi), 36 sq ft (3.3 m2). In Nellore, one acre equals 600 Ankanams, and 1 cent amounts to six Ankanams. This unit is very popular, presumably because it is easier to calculate the cost of a piece of land.

One Ankanam =4 sq.yds and 1 yard = 3 feet 1 sq.yard = 9 sq.feet so 1 ankanam = 36 sq.feer
