| In yet another case of minors taking to driving with dangerous consequences, a 12-year-old boy rammed a Qualis into a group of pedestrians, crushing a three-year-old to death and injuring two on Tuesday night at Paschim Vihar.
Deepak (26), driver of the car, had handed over the steering to the boy for a joyride. The police arrested the boy and Deepak from the spot on the charge of causing death due to rash and negligent driving. Another case of a minor driving was lodged against the boy, whose father survives on odd jobs. Both were let off on bail. The car was impounded and taken to the Mianwali police post.
According to the police, the incident took place around 9.30 pm in the Inder Enclave area of Paschim Vihar when Vivek, the victim, was going to attend a Janmashtami fair in Mianwali with his uncle, Subhash, and aunt, Pushpa, who stay at Jwalapuri nearby. Vivek used to stay with his uncle while his parents are in MP.
Recalling the incident, the victim’s uncle, Subhash, who works as a helper in a dairy, said: ‘‘On Tuesday night, we were going to attend Janmashtami celebrations in Mianwali. On our way when I stopped to talk to someone, I saw a speeding car, driven by a 12-to-13-year-old boy, heading towards us. And in a flash, it hit Vivek and Pushpa. My nephew died on the spot while my wife was injured.’’
