Yes,
Mentally reduce weight but physically not reduce weight in yoga;
reduce weight only physically excercise and food habits.

It would certainly bring a chain reaction even without asanas and make our life proactive and highly powered and charged.
It would propel us to reach higher heights in due course if only we practice regularly.

Also, breathing is an important part of Yoga, breathing in a properly regulated way will probably help in sending pure air to lungs which will clean up the impurities in your body and make you look fresh and healthy.
Correct me if I am wrong..this is just my reasoning.
