At about 9.15 pm, a huge explosion occurred at S M Labs Pvt Ltd in Moula Ali Industrial Area, police said.Local people and workers of nearby units panicked due to the deafening sound of the explosion.DCP (Alwal) G Sudheer Babu said fire might have triggered the explosion. “We suspect a chemical reactor at the factory, which makes an intermediate of an anti-depressant, might have exploded due to a fire mishap,” he said. He said eight workers were present at the factory at the time of the explosion and two of them suffered critical burn injuries. The duo was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, he added. Four fire tenders were rushed to the spot, but heavy fire and smoke created trouble for the rescue operation.
