Andhra Pradesh gets AIIMS, IIT and Agriculture university in Union Budget. Horticulture university in Telangana
Students can rejoice as Andhra Pradesh has been allocated with three prestigious national level institutes of All India Institute of Medica Sciences (AIIMS), an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and an Agriculture University in the Union Budget presented on Thursday.
These three premier institutes are part of the 11 premier institutes promised to residuary Andhra Pradesh in the AP Reorganisations Act.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is keen on starting some of the national-level institutes like IIT from the current academic year from temporary campus.
However, experts are against the establishment of premier institutes like IITs from temporary campus with insufficient infrastructre mainly laboratories, as it would make a severe dent on the "brand image" of the premier institutes like IITs and IIMs carry.
Earlier, Chandrababu Naidu finalised the location of 11 national-level premier institutes to be set up in state in accordance with the AP Reorganisation Act. All three regions of the state — south Andhra, north Andhra and Rayalaseema — have been included.
