Hyderabad: A spanking new stadium on the outskirts of the city is set to become the country's 38th match venue Wednesday when India clashes with South Africa in the first of the five one-day international (ODI) series.
Dozens of workers were busy giving final touches to the seating arrangements, score board, video screen and other facilities at the Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium at Uppal.
The stadium, built by the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), is the second in this southern city and the fifth in Andhra Pradesh. The Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium here hosted 14 ODIs in the past with the last match played between India and Sri Lanka on Nov 15, 2003.
Besides, the AC-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh became the 150th venue in the world and the second in the coastal city when it hosted an India-Pakistan match in April this year. The Indira Gandhi Stadium in Vijayawada had hosted a one-day match between India and the West Indies in 2002.
