Are we really living!

Hi Everyone, Guess everyone is living their life to their fullest extent at the moment. But then are we all? I pose this question as a person who thought just like all of you out there that I was living my life to the fullest. I saw a man today on the road. His clothes were in shambles. He is a leper and begging his way through life. I thought why would anyone want to really go on in those circumstances! Why would he not use some of his beggar’s earnings to find a way to put himself to sleep forever? What is it within him that is prodding him to go on? Do you call that existence or life? To me the answer is that if he still wants to live a beggar’s life then he is surely not living. He is simply existing. But if he tries to better his situation in some way, that he thinks is possible then definitely he is living. In this case it could be as simple as finding a government shelter to carry on living. Speaking in that sense I had to question myself whether we are all not beggars in one way or the other. We are beggars for comfort when things get tough on us, we are beggars for enjoyment, we are beggars to find short cuts and simple ways to our goals, we are beggars for dependence as much as independence, we are beggars for freedom as much as bondage etc…etc. Add to this the effects of our culture, our brought up and conditioning we get right from the moment that we are born. Given this mesh that we call living, I wonder whether there ever have been moments in each of our life when we were able to question why we had to adjust to circumstances (which all our elders teach us) and why should we take all the factors effecting our life for a given? And should we ever get the opportunity to think without bias about things that go on in our life with a semblance of balance? I guess that is what is called growth. A complete annihilation of all the products of conditioning whether that conditioning be culture, education, family background, values and attitudes. In that state of complete lack of conditioning our spontaneity and creativity will find fresh outlets and the universe around us might get a completely new meaning. World might not be as terrible nor as beautiful as what our conditioned minds made us to see. It would be a world where we shall see the world for what it is. A world that goes on whether we are there or not, a world which cannot be judged as good or as bad, a world where we understand that values, attitudes, cultures, languages and hierarchies are all created by man. A world that gives the insight that it shall be a place, which we make of it. With that complete deconditioning, we shall all find our true individualities and learn to really live as unique persons who need be not judged, compared and sized whether it be in a good way or a bad way. For afterall what is an insult or praise? A statement by someone who does not approve our activities is an insult and praise, a statement by someone who approves our activities. When we learn to be individuals, we shall not let others judgements effect us. Evolutionary theorists say that our emotional control center in the brain is the amygdala and our rational control center is the neocortex(neocortex , means the new brain) The neocortex is called the new brain, as it has developed only very recently as far as evolutionary time scale goes. And spatially speaking it is on top of all the other brain structures and amygdala is deep down in the brain. If we let our emotions run through us then we never give scope for neo cortex to do its rational function. When we are not rational and thinking beings we are no better than our evolutionary ancestors. I therefore suggest my friends, that we use our neo cortex as much as possible to live this life. Let us question things and not accept them for what they are. Let us keep our minds free from all conditioning, be free to take risks to explore new horizons. Let us not take life with enthusiasm and optimism nor take it with pessimism or depression. Let us learn to take it as it comes and shape as EACH OF US WANT . DON’T YOU THINK FRIENDS THAT IS WHAT LIVING IS ALL ABOUT!
