I would like to share my views on a song which touched me a lot. At some places, I presented my views alongside the meaning of the line. Intro: The song is from the film-'Amrutha' a translation from the tamil original-'Kannathil Mutthamittal' by Manirathnam. The song is kaDasaaridi veeDkOlu..' marked with excellent lyrics and a well composed music, the song is certainly a haunting one. The theme of the song is the feelings of refugees leaving their mother land to some alien land, where they are not sure to live for long. It describes the mental trauma they experience, the memories that haunt them, their fears, apprehensions, their hopes etc. Song: The song begins 'kaDasaaridi veeDkOlu. kanneeTitO maa chEvraalu..' This line depicts the mindset of the people leaving their land with no hopes of returning to the place again. aDavi cheTlanu, paavuraalanu kalalOnainaa kanagalamaa' Can we see these forests, these trees, these birds again even in dreams? The emotional relationship that they shared with the land can be understood from this line. True, generations and generations have been born, brought up and buried there. there is a sense of belongingness between the people and the land. Land is not treated lifeless. It is the father, mother, everything to the people there. 'aaSalu samaadhi chEstu, bamdhaalanu balichEstu, praaNaalE viDichi saagE payanamidi' In this journey, we are burying our dreams and aspirations, sacrificing our relations, leaving our life back here. 'talli nElanu, palleseemanu veeDa taramaa, taramaa?' Is it possible to leave the mother land? Is it possible to leave the place where we grew up? 'unna UrilO unna sauKyamu svargamivvagaladaa?' Where else can we get that eternal happiness which we get in our native place? Even heaven can’t give it. This line depicts the psyche of any sensible human being. Though we settle in various places round the globe for various reasons, the thought of mother land fills us with joy. Cometh the thought, we are reminded of our childhood, the environment and life there. Perhaps that’s where the saying 'gRuhamE kadaa svargaseema' evolved. 'jananaaniki idi maa dESaM, maraNaaniki mari E dESaM?' This is our birth place. Where are we going to die? There is a certain importance attached to the place of one’s birth. In most of the cases, we see old people quite attached to the place of their living and wishing to be died and buried there. Its the emotional relationship which bonds them with the land. Certain human emotions have no words to describe. Any further description may appear vague and abstract. This is one such feeling. remember the hindi song - jeenaa yahaa, marnaa yahaa… 'kadilE nadulaaraa, kalalE alalaunaa?' Oh mighty rivers! Will all our dreams about future be erased like the waves of water? The dreams refer to dreams about future. All the dreams are shattered with this incident. jananee janma bhoomiScha, svargaadapi gareeyasee' Ones mother land and mother stand at a greater height than even heaven kanneeTi teralalO tallinElanu kaDasaari mEmu kanalEka kadalipOyEmu We want to see our mother land for the last time before we leave…but, our tears made even that impossible. The attachment that one shares with his/her mother land is undefinable. If has neither limits nor words to describe. 'paaDE jOlalu paapala Edupula paalai pOtE, udayasooryuDE vilayadhoomapu teralalO daagE' 'poolalOna ninnaTi nidra, muLLu kadaa ippaTi naDaka' Perhaps, I feel this is the most touching line of the whole song. It potrays the contrast between the hapy and merry life of yesterday and the tension, chaos and trauma that they are facing today. usurE migilumTE, marala darijEramaa? manasE migilumTE, oDilO tala vaalchamaa?
