Gujarat Elections and Communal Frenzy in India: A Debate.

Dear Friends, In “A Thought for Today’, the times of India on 17th stating that “The Imam should realise that his role is restricted to the mosque. He should not venture into politics”, is for the tomorrow also. May be because of the ‘fatwa’ issued by Islamic clergies not only in Gujarat but also in India caused a lot of socio-economic-political problems. Because of this ‘fatwa’ in Gujarat the neutral non-Muslim votes were poled for BJP. This became very crucial in shifting the tilt towards the BJP. This Jug Suraiya stated correctly in his article on 17th of this month. No one is happy in India over the developments in Gujarat from the last February. But we bound to accept the verdict of voters of Gujarat. Earlier in 1992, Mr. Advani made BJP popular in India by launching Rathayatra. But the same may not be possible by Mr. Modi. The victory of communalists must be localised, then later finished. The Muslims in India should deny this ‘fatwa’ culture, and this culture needs to be eliminated from India. There is no place for the people like Mr.Togadia in the Indian polity. For these kind of people the political situation is not just correct as he went on issuing statements against the constitutional bodies. If Mr. Togadia wants to make India a theocratic state, this shows his ‘amateurish meddlesomeness’ and his statement ‘Hindutva opponents will get death sentences’, is simply mad. It seems the VHP will become untouchable to the Hindus. Mr. Advani’s, “aaj panch Pradesh, kal sara desh”, is a myth. But Mr. Vajpayee’s opinion that there was no adequate criticism about the Godhra incident is statesman like but untenable as there was enough condemnation already. At the same time, Mr. Vajpayee’s opinion that the Hindutva ‘experiment’ being extended beyond Gujarat’s boundaries is not correct. At the same time, it is the time for the Muslims to prove their patriotism. Mr. Vajpayee went on proving himself several times that he was a RSS person, forgetting that he is prime minister of a sovereign, socialist, secular and democratic republic of India. But one thing is sure; the developments in India between 1990 to 2003 will make India awake that is another enlightenment after Raja Ram Mohan Roy. On that day all the communal frenzy in India will eliminated. On that day, there will be no place for these Democratic communalists.
