How man is dependent on his invention!!

This is just a thought I got when we had a black out on last thursday Aug-14. I will write my experience. I am not a good writer but trying to pen something being inspired by so many young friends on net taking an active part day to day. I just drove home from my office and found the sensor to the parking lot is not working and I can't drive in . Hastily parked in visitors area to have a word with the building Super about it. But gave a thought to put tandoori mixture in oven and laundry in the washer before complaining to Super. I noticed neither the oven nor the washer has Power on. By then I was too tired to complain and can't have a cup of coffe as my coffe maker is not helping me. Just then I got a call from my hubby that he will be late to home as the traffic is drastic and the traffic lights are not working. Slowly started coming to know about the news of power breakout in vast area and we have no clue when we will be back to Normal. Then the real problem starts. As we are used of debit cards and credit cards we both have no hard cash in hand. Because of power failure no store is open, very few stores which are open are doing transactions manually and we need cash to buy goods. We are left out with a loaf of bread, and few donuts and baegles at home. We managed to eat bread and baegle without toasting with cheddar and margarine. Some parts of Toronto and Mississauga has power within 6 to 7 hours but we ran out of fuel to drive so far. The nearest fuel station open at that time is about 60km and there is a line for 1 mile. (This we came to know by radio). By the next day all the frozen items started melting. Milk became stale( Thank god only half a carton of milk left in the fridge). One of friend's wife is stuck in the lift in her Office building. No Air condition. No lighting. Black and Black everywhere. At our place we had power after 29hrs. We resumed to our jobs in 48hrs. Still we have power scarcity in Toronto. The transport systems are no more using A/C in Subways trains and Bus transits. No cooling in Malls. They reduced lighting by 30% everywhere. But it has a brighter side also. No one has gone to job except the people who have emergency situations. So everyone came into the playground with the children. We really had a good time with our friends in our building. Or else on the normal circumstances, we would have a hai or bye in the lift, garage or lobby. They say that we faced the same situation in 1960s. We all felt how much unknowingly we all are dependent on the Science and Technology. We all felt that if something like this had happened in India we really wouldn't have felt that much difference. Sometimes it is good to be technologically behind.
