Why feminists oppose beauty contests....

All of the anti-feminists say that the people who oppose are ugly females who are jealous of the 'beautiful women'. Does mere jealousy drive the women out of their homes onto the streets to perfrom demonstrations and sometimes get beaten/killed? Definitely NOT. Infact most of the demostrators are not ugly. They are the independent women with self-respect. The feminists are against commoditizing women and degrading women's dignity. Parading of a few almost naked sterotype females (whom they call beauty queens) helps to just fulfill male voyeurims and to satisfy male's ego. Feminsts are against making beauty as the ONLY identity for a woman. They oppose beauty contests because these contests harm the liberation of women by potraying woman as a mere 'object of pleasure'. Beauty contests replaced our cultural definition of beauty with the western definition of 36-24-36. The supporters of beauty contests say 'beauty contests boost a woman's confidence'.They are harmful to women by encouraging dieting, eating disorders and cosmetic surger. They make women lose confidence by making them feel ugly or inadequate. Some of the supporters say 'beauty contests are not just about beauty but also brains '. This is completely ruled out when priyanka chopra gave her stupid answer in the final round and yet got the crown. This is a clear indication how beauty contests are fixed depending on which country the cosmetic companies want to exploit. We all know that the western cosmetic companis are the main sponsors of they beauty peagants and beauty contests are not about beauty but about commerce. It is not for nothing the western cosmetic companies put a premium on synthetic smiles, vital statistics of the female, measured movements of the female body, the made-up hair, manicured nails, pedicured feet and moisturised skin. The cosmetic market in the western countries came to a saturation and the companies started looking for a potential market to exploit.THe fresh markets in the third world countries are a big attraction for the western cosmetic companies. They crown few 'beauty queens' from the thrid world countries and the results are spectacular. In the early 1990s, all of a sudden Indian women became the most beautiful in the world. Women in India prior to 1995, used the traditional home made non costly cosmetics with no side effects like sandal wood and turmeric. Now, we get all the brands we get in any western countries are available here. The importance of beauty has gone to such an extent that every girl started using the western cosmetics and going to beauty parlours to make herself look better. They try to identigy themselves with the beauty queens. Even an average looking female wants to get some plastic surgery and aspire for the crown. Some of the girls even suffer witht the mental disorders like anorexia and bulemia (I call them mental disorders rather than diseases because they are caused due to an over obsession with beauty). It is a pity that women are valued based on how they look rather than what they are or what they stand for. For a change why not men go for women with a brain? or Is it too challenging for them?
