Many of us think that ‘real-estate’ gives the highest returns. Much to our surprise, investment in ‘art’, namely paintings/sculptures have offered far more returns than any thing else. Many savvy investors around the world have successfully proved that owning a piece of artwork is far more fetching than owning a piece of land.
A newly established film distribution company went on a hunt for a very low-budget movie that it wanted to market and make some money. They scanned several hundreds of films and spotted a film made with a shoe-string budget of $10,000 by four amateur film-school students. This film, made in black and white with 16mm camera and shot in natural light, broke Hollywood’s records in 1999. The movie, “Blairwitch Project” grossed a whopping $100 million in just one year.
Reality TV show, conceptualized by a young man in Europe went on to become one of the world’s top TV shows. MP3, which is now the hottest audio format in the world, has been invented by a person at 17 years of age.
A photograph, a book, a film, a painting, a concept or a product; it can be any thing. The global market is hungry for creative ideas and concepts. Creativity is now the scarcest commodity on earth. Venture Capitalists (VCs) around the world have an overflow of funds but they are starving of creative ideas and concepts. Film companies are willing to spend any amount of money but they lack creative scripts. Book publishers are ready to pour in money but it is increasingly difficult to find writers with creative ideas.
