Here I take the example of Telepathy over which I mulled since long. Telepathy is a phenomenon involving individuals who are away from each other. For example a similar kind of thought shared by two individuals at the same moment who are at different places. Spiritualists try to attribute this co-incidental phenomenon to the super natural powers. Where as on the other side Psychologists deny the presence of it in toto. But in my opinion some of the process that go under the name of Telepathy are nothing but the phenomena on which the science of Psychology has not yet thrown light.
Let me explain the above through the example of the process of the digestion of food in the human beings. Given some factors are controlled, the process of digestion food takes a particular amount of time in an average human being of a particular age. Now lets extend this process to the mind. In the case of the mind it is not the food- but the food for thought- that is ideas that has to be explained. Here we can confidently say that the maturation of ideas also takes a common sequel, which like the digestive system has its own average time. So, individuals who agree or disagree on a particular issue some times might have the same time period in the maturation of those ideas or thoughts leading to a deep desire to share the same with the other individuals. This process might provoke a feeling of something unknown or spiritual happening between them. Even when those individuals are separated in terms of space, an external trigger like the reading of a same news paper item might lead to the same mental process which ultimately converge or diverge which might lead to a deep desire to share those ides almost at the same time.
So, the attempt to put a phenomenon like the Telepathy out side the domain of Psychology or else - pinning it under the category of ESP might both be wrong. I like to conclude by saying that- some of the phenomena which were denied a scientific investigation by the science of Psychology - thus were thrown into the domain of the ESP should be re-examined- so that the science of Psychology could break another barrier in a particular direction so that the mystique of the ' Super Natural ' claims its due as a part of developing science. So I like to call ESP as extended sensory perception... now let us not throw away the baby with the bath water...
