ISRO chief visits Tirumala, prays for successful GSLV launch Tirumala, Dec 19 (INN): Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation ( ISRO ) K Radhakrishnan on Sunday visited the abode of Lord Venkateswara in Tirumala hills and performed special puja for the successful launch of Geo-synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-F06) from Sriharikota in Nellore district at 4 pm on December 20. Prof Radhakrishnan came to Tirumala in wee hours along with his wife and had the darshan of Lord Venkateswara under VIP darshan scheme.
Talking to media persons later, the ISRO chairman said that he performed special puja for the successful launch of GSLV-F06 that will put a communications satellite GSAT-5 Prime into orbit. On his arrival at the temple complex, he was accorded a warm reception by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam officials and led into the sanctum sanctorum. He said the GSAT-5P would provide continuity to services offered by the INSAT system.
The GSAT-5P has 36 transponders, including 24 C-band transponders and 12 extended C-band ones. The transponders will be useful in telecasting television programmes, including those related to telemedicine and tele-education and in boosting telephonic services, he said. The mission will last 1,140 seconds, at the end of which the cryogenic stage will catapult the GSAT-5P into the orbit, he added.
