Pocharam held for disrupting Rajiv statue's unveiling Nizamabad, Aug 20 (INN): Tension prevailed at Banswada town in Nizamabad district when the police house arrest former MLA Pocharam Srinivas Reddy for allegedly planning to disrupt the unveiling of Rajiv Gandhi statue by Minister Sudarshan Reddy.
According to reports, Irrigation Minister P Sudarshan Reddy and MP Shetkar were to participate in the unveiling of Rajiv Gandhi statue at Banswada town to mark his 67th birth jayanthi on Saturday.
However, Pocharam reportedly planned to disrupt the unveiling of statue and convened a meeting with the steering committee members at his house. Sensing trouble from the Telangana leaders, the police house arrested Pocharam Srinivas Reddy as a precautionary measure.
However, Pocharam threatened the police that he would commit suicide by dousing kerosene if they did not let him. Sensing trouble, police arrested him and shifted to Bichkunda police station.
Pocharam Srinivas continued his dharna in the police station and raised Jai Telangana slogans. Meanwhile, Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K Chandrasekhar Rao condemned the arrest of Pocharam Srinivas and demanded his immediate release from police station.
