20 held for attack on DEO Warangal, Sept 16 (INN): The Warangal Police on Friday took at least 20 Telangana activists into custody in connection with the Thursday's attack on District Education Office.
According to sources, the police booked cases against 50 persons including some lawyers under various sections for attacking the District Education Office.
While 14 people were arrested in the wee hours of Friday, six more people were reportedly taken into custody in the morning. The arrested people were taken to Subedar police station.
As part of general strike called by Telangana Employees Joint Action Committee, the employees and lawyers picketed the District Education Office and damaged furniture and files.
At the time of attack, all officials, except for the DEO were participating in the strike. When the pro-Telangana activists asked the DEO to close the office in support of Telangana, the officer did not obey.
The activists had a heated argument with him and ransacked the office. Warangal police did not rule out the arrests of more activists in the case.
