Lovers elope, father dies, doubts arise Visakhapatnam, May 1 (INN): Kancharapalem police are investigating the suspicious death of a man whose son eloped with a minor girl of a different religion from Maharaniveedi village in Visakhapatnam district on Sunday.
According to Sub-Inspector Venkataramana, Sheik Shahbaz died on Sunday morning after he had fallen off the terrace of his residence where he had gone to sleep.
Shabaz's relatives have complained to the police that he may have been pushed off the terrace by the relatives of 16-year-old Kavita, who is believed to have eloped with his son Rasool (23) three days earlier.
Kavita's relatives had on Saturday entered into a heated argument with Shahbaz and his family, demanding that he make efforts to ensure that both Rasool and Kavita return home.
Police believe that the minor girl and the boy eloped after assuming that their parents will never agree to get them married since they belonged to different religions.
After Saturday's argument, Shahbaz had made his way to the terrace of his house to sleep. Late in the night, he had been found on the ground, seriously injured. He was rushed to hospital where he succumbed while undergoing treatment.
Police registered a case and took up further investigations. Efforts are on to trace the missing lovers, the police said.
