Shobana Kamineni inaugurates the 3rd CACTO Summit
Hyderabad, July 21st, 2012: The two day 3rd Live CACTO (Complex Angioplasty & Chronic Total Occlusion) SUMMIT 2012 being hosted by Apollo Hospitals - Hyderguda was inaugurated by Ms. Shobana Kamineni, Executive Director, Apollo Hospitals Group at Hotel Taj Viventa, Hyderabad, today. Dr. V. Surya Prakasa Rao, HOD-Cardiology and Dr. P.L.N.Kapardhi, Director - Cathlab Services, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderguda; Prof. A.R. Galassi (Italy), Dr. M. Yamane (Japan), Dr. Kenya Nasu (Japan) and Dr. Rajesh Dave (USA) along with over 300 delegates & faculty from India and abroad were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion Ms Shobana said, India will be the heart disease capital of the world by 2015, with over 60% of the world's heart disease occurring in India. Apollo through its country wide initiative 'Billion Hearts Beating' is trying to reduce the burden of the heart disease on the country by creating awareness about the disease, life style modifications needed etc. This conference is focusing on innovative cutting edge technology. Launching the INDO-JAPANESE CTO CLUB, she said this will serve as an excellent platform for cardiologists from both the countries to share knowledge and expertise for the benefit of the patients.
The Summit being held on July 21st & 22nd, 2012, will demonstrate treatment for Chronic Total Occlusions (CTO) and other complex cases. CTOS are heart blocks, which completely block the artery space and have been existing for several months or years, says Dr. V. Surya Prakasa Rao, HOD-Cardiology, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderguda. Also blocks at main junction points left main blocks are also treated. Surgery was the only treatment option for CTOs in the past. With this new techniques an angioplasty is performed using drug eluting stents to treat CTOs, thereby avoiding surgery.
According to Dr. P.L.N.Kapardhi, Director - Cathlab Services, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderguda, CACTO-2012 has several eminent international and national faculty members including Prof. A.R. Galassi (Italy), Dr. M. Yamane, Dr. E. Tsuchikane (Japan), Dr. Kenya Nasu (Japan) and Dr. Rajesh Dave (USA) as faculty. CACTO -2012 also has Live Transmission of complex procedures from USA, Japan and other centres from India apart from Apollo Hospital, Hyderguda.
Several new imaging modalities like OCT, IVUS and FFR are being demonstrated live and are being discussed about. OCT and IVUS will have infrared and ultrasound fitted to small 2 to 3 mm sized ( minute) catheters to take photographs from the minute blood vessels of heart and will guide the cardiologist during procedure. For the budding interventional cardiologist apart from the rich knowledge and experience shared by the faculty, simulators will be available to give hands on experience. There will be an opportunity for CD presentation on a challenging case to a panel of experts. An exciting session to look forward will be the personal interaction with the Master interventionalists.'
