Mohd Shahabuddin, a small time entrepreneur, of Nallagutta, Ramgopalpet, was suffering from kidney and pancreas problem. Since he was suffering from Sugar for the past 18 years, his kidney and pancreas got damaged. He was on dialysis for the last four-and-a-half years. His health condition was beyond recovery and he needed immediate transplantation.
"We were unable to commit anything when Shahabuddin's family approached us seeking help. He needed immediate transplantation and had no money to bear the cost. But we were firm on extending all possible help to him," said Dr. Mohammed Fareed of Healthier Hearts Foundation.
Shahabuddin is the sole bread earner for his 10-member family comprising of wife, two children, six siblings and parents.
Fortunately, his request for a cadaver transplant was approved by the Telangana Government under Jeevandan, the Cadaver Transplantation Programme. But he needed Rs. 14.75 lakh to undergo the transplantation at Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills. "The Foundation immediately took up the case. Going by the merit of the case, the Central Government sanctioned Rs. 3 lakh under the Prime Minister's Relief Fund. The Telangana Government too acted swiftly and sanctioned Rs. 5 lakh under Chief Minister's Relief Fund. We then mobilised remaining amount from some businessmen of Hyderabad," informed Syed Nizamuddin, President of Telangana State Cabs and Bus Operators Association.
City's prominent businessman K. Narender of Vennela Logistics made a generous contribution while Syed Nizamuddin arranged the remaining amount.
The timely and combined efforts of Central and State Governments, HHF and the kind gesture by travel operators ultimately saved the life of Shahabuddin. He successfully underwent cadaver transplant and is fast recovering. "I'm now living a normal life. I'm thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Mod, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, HHF and all the individuals and officials who helped me during crisis. Their kind gesture has given me a new lease of life and I shall remain thankful to them throughout my life. I just pray and hope that other needy patients also receive the same attention and help so that their lives could be saved," said Shahabuddin.
