Leaves of irrigation officials cancelled Hyderabad, Sept 21 (INN): In the wake of heavy rains in Hyderabad and many parts of the state, the irrigation department has cancelled leaves for its personnel.
Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Wednesday reviewed the situation with the officials of his department. He directed the officials to be on high alert. He asked them to ensure that enough arrangements were in place to handle emergency situation. He directed the officials to shift the people living in low lying areas to safety. He also asked the officials to step to prevent breaching of canals due to heavy in flows during the last couple of days.
Meanwhile, in Karimnagar district, the SRSP Kakatiya Canal carrying water to the Lower Manair Dam got breached at Manala village of Mallial mandal on Tuesday evening inundating low lying areas in the village. Sources said that the standing crop in the village got completely submerged and was damaged.
Finance Minister Etela Rajendar visited the village and directed the officials to take immediate relief measures. The people in the inundated village were shifted to safer places. Authorities were told to repair the canal at war footing as soon as the rain water recedes.
