Over 5,000 people participate in Cancer 5K Run

Hyderabad, Feb 5 (INN): More than 5,000 enthusiastic people have participated in the Yashoda Cancer Awareness 5K Run and bike rally held from Saroornagar Stadium near LB Nagar on Sunday. It was organized as part of World Cancer Day programs with an intention to spread 'Awareness and Fight Cancer' by Yashoda Group of Hospitals.

GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan has flagged off the Cancer Awareness 5K Run in the presence of Managing Director of Yashoda Hospitals Dr. GS Rao and local public representatives of L.B.Nagar.

Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor congratulated Yashoda Hospitals for taking this initiative to create awareness among the public to fight against deadly cancer. He said Telangana Government under the leadership of K. Chandrashekar Rao was determined to improve the standards of health care sector and strengthen the position of Hyderabad as leading medicare city in the country. Cancer is causing more panic than all the diseases that has been tormenting the mankind today. India and Telangana state in particular has a high burden of cancer, the Mayor said.

Dr. G. S. Rao, in his speech said that, around 10 lakh people are diagnosed with cancer every year and this number could rise significantly if preventive measures are not taken. A major issue with the disease is that people do not realize the symptoms of cancer until it is too late and most cancer victims do not seek help until the disease has reached a more advanced stage which makes treatment and recovery harder. Youth and Students are pivotal in spreading the awareness among the public very effectively. Cancer is a no more a deadly disease its curable. This is the main objective of 'Yashoda Cancer Awareness Walk', he said. Early detection is the key factor in fighting and survival of cancer. 'We are hosting this awareness run and rally to fill the gap between knowledge and discussion surrounding this killer disease', he further added.

As part of Cancer Awareness program Yashoda Hospitals - Malakpet is offering Special Package for Cancer Screening at heavily discounted price.

The 5K Run started at Saroornagar Stadium, proceeded up to Kothapet before returning to the stadium. Nearly 6,300 people from all walks of life have participated in the walk and made it a grand success.

L.B. Nagar MLA R. Krishnaiah and Senior IAS, IPS and GHMC official and Yashoda Hospitals Oncologists, Doctors, Nurses, Staff and especially youth, students joined their hands and pledged against cancer.
