Chandrababu should apologise to women: Roja Hyderabad, Feb 7 (INN): YSR Congress Party MLA R.K. Roja on Tuesday said that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and his cabinet colleagues have no moral right to attend the upcoming Women Parliamentarians' Conference, unless they tender an unconditional apology to the women as the crime rate against women in the State has increased by 11%. She said of four ministers who are facing charges of atrocities on women, two are from Andhra Pradesh.
"Hosting the Women's Conference at Vijayawada on February 10, 11 and 12 for women empowerment is a good move. But during the past two-and-a-half years, women were targeted and harassed by TDP functionaries and ministers and the event would lose its sanctity unless Chandrababu Naidu tenders an unconditional apology to the women," Roja said while speaking to media persons.
Roja also questioned as why women like Brinda Karat and Medha Patkar, who are working for the empowerment of women, were not invited to the conference.
"TDP leaders are involved in Call Money Sex racket which was hushed up. Ministers' kin were involved in attacks on women and the election promise of Chandrababu Naidu that he will waive loans of women self help groups was not honoured. The scant respect TDP has for women has come to the fore when I was suspended for one year from the assembly reflects the vindictive nature of the people in power. Anyone questioning them would be ruthlessly suppressed and they would be targeted as it happened with me and Dalit Speaker Kuthuhulamma earlier," she said. She termed TDP as Telugu Duryodhana Party invoking Duryodhan's misdemeanor on Draupadi.
"We will attend the Conference and request the delegates to know the facts about Andhra Pradesh and the ruling party," she said.
