Liquor retailers warned to keep prices under check Guntur, Dec 6 (INN): Excise Minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana on Monday warned unscrupulous liquor traders that the government will initiate action against those liquor shops which sell liquor for more than the stated Maximum Retail Price. Talking to media persons while participating in a programme in the district on Monday, Mr Venkata Ramana said the government would cancel the licenses of the liquor retailers if they sell liquor more than MPR approved.
The Minister said the rules and regulations for selling liquor would be strengthened and severe action would be initiated against those who violate the laws. He said the department was receiving complaints that the distilleries were diverting the use of spirit for other purposes. To prevent this, the department would strengthen the Task Force in the state, he pointed out. The government will announce a policy on whether to continue belt shops under law or abolish the system, he stated.
