Lord rides on Surya Prabha vahanam TIRUMALA: The Sun God ('Surya Prabha Vahanam') was the carrier of the processional deity of Lord Venkateswara on the seventh day of the ongoing 'Brahmotsavams' on Thursday morning.
According to mythology, the Sun God is benevolent to the people who pray to Him. Thus, the devotees who participated in Thursday morning procession offered prayers to both the processional idol of Lord Malayappa Swamy and to the Sun God. Similarly, the devotees also offered 'harati' to both.
Lord Malayappa Swamy (Venkateswara) 'clad' in a maroon-coloured dress and bedecked with jewels and golden Surya Prabha looked resplendent and the overall look of the 'vahanam' was eye-pleasing. The three-hour-long procession was a visual treat to those gathered to witness it.
The Chariot of Surya Prabha of Lord Malayappa Swamy was specially designed and the flower arrangement on it were done by a special 20-member team of florists from Coimbatore. 'The entire Surya Prabha design is made of jasmine flowers and laced with red and orange- coloured 'Kanakambara' or roses', S Srinivasulu, a temple official in charge of the TTD garden wing, said.
It is common belief that the 'darshan' of 'Surya Prabha Vahanam' provides long life to the devotees and also relieves them of all illnesses. On Thursday night, the processional idol of the Lord was taken out on the 'Chandra Prabha Vahanam'.
