61st Cooperative week celebrations in PDCCB, Ongole Ongole, November 14. Cooperative movement is a people's movement stated Edara Mohan Babu, PDCCB Chairman while addressing at the 61st Cooperative week celebrations at Ongole today.
Chairman, Edara Mohan Babu while delivering the keynote address appraised about the cooperative societies functioning in the district. Till date the PDCCB had 29 branches and covered 56 mandals and 1093 villages. A total number of 168 PACS, 8 ceded societies and 64 other societies financed by bank, he added.
Chief guest Prakasam District Collector G.S.R.K.R. Vijay Kumar said that this week should be utilized to retrospect, plan and develop cohesiveness amongst the members of the society, which is very essence of cooperation movement. The cooperative movement plays a very significant role as it encourages entrepreneurship. The cooperative movement should be sustainable and it should emphasize on inclusive growth, he added. He expressed hope that the cooperative sector would bring about a positive change in the socio-economic life of the people.
Trust must be there on cooperative societies and cooperative society members do not support Red-tapism, political interference, administrative bottlenecks etc. The officials should not succumb to local pressure, political or otherwise. Powerful village lobbies should not interfere unnecessarily in the functioning of the cooperative societies. They should, however, discharge their moral obligations with utmost sincerity so far as the larger benefits of the village community are concerned, he added.
