Cricket bookie, associate held, 3 on the run Ongole, November 29. A cricket bookie, and his associate running a cricket betting racket in Santhanuthalapadu in Prakasam district, were arrested on Friday.
According Ongole DSP G. Srinivasa Rao said that 11 cell phones and Rs. 4.5 lakh in cash were seized from them. Tumu Venkata Rao and Daka Ramana Reddy were caught when a police team led by SNPadu ASI David raided a house in the Santhanuthalapadu outskirts. These bookies were betting on the result of an ongoing test cricket match between Pakistan and New Zealand at Sharjah.
A total of three bookies managed to escape during the raid. Tumu Venkatarao was into cricket betting since1980 and he got a network of agents under him at Ongole, Guntur, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Eluru, Hyderabad, Bapatla, Kavali and Nellore. Investigation was on to nab the sub-bookies involved in the network. Venkat Rao had been arrested by the Ongole Taluka police in the past too on cricket betting, he added.
