TLCA Celebrates Sankranthi grandly Padmasri Dr.Nori Dattatreyudu was recognized at the event
Telugu Literary and Cultural Association, New York, celebrated Sankranthi grandly amidst more than 600 guests from the tri-state area at Hindu Temple Auditorium in Flushing, New York. The program began with a Ganesh prayer, followed by outstanding performances by over 100 children from all over the tri-state region, exhibiting great talent. Presentations included classical, semi classical and folk dances, skits that enthralled the audience!
TLCA in its 44th year organizing cultural events, health seminars, youth programs, sports activities, and supports charitable causes in India and USA. President Rao Voleti, presented his report detailing the events the Association organized during the year and sincerely thanked the donors, Executive Committee members, Board of Trustees, volunteers and the community members for their strong support and encouragement throughout the year.
Later during the program TLCA honored Dr. Nori Dattatreyudu, on being recognized with Padmasri Award by the Central Government of India. Padmasri Dr. Nori said he received many awards from many countries but this one from motherland is very special for him.
Dr. Mandava Nageswara Rao, Chairman, Dept of Surgery at Flushing Hospital, was honored by the Rotary 'Club with Rotary PHOF-Paul Harris Fellow Award, for his humanitarian work done with the gift-of-vision project in association with Rotary. TLCA President, Rao said it is a great honor to have the Rotarians on TLCA dais and said Dr. Mandava has been a great supporter of TLCA and the Telugu community and youth in general.
TLCA also have remembered noted artist, film director, cartoonist, Bapu and released a stamp in his memory. President Rao said he worked with the family of Bapu for the last two months on this and was finally able to fulfil his dream project.
On this auspicious day, Mrs. Raji Kuncham took over as the 30th President of Telugu Literary Cultural Association. Dr. Nageswara Rao Mandava, Election Officer 2015, announced the new team and administered the oath of office to President Raji Kuncham. President Raji Kuncham unveiled the TLCA vision for 2015 with a focus centered on women, children, and wellness. She emphasized her team will work vigorously toward successfully executing new and current initiatives.
The new TLCA 2015 team includes, President: Mrs. Raji Kuncham, Vice President: Satya Challapalli, Secretary: Srinivas Guduru, Treasurer: Dr. Dharmarao Thapi, Joint-Secretary: Ashok Chintakuntla, Joint-Treasurer: Babu Kudaravalli, EC Members: Jaya Prakash Enjapuri, Dr. Jyothi Jasti, , Harisankar Rasaputra, Sirisha Tuniguntla, Rama Vanama and Prasad Koyi.
The services of the outgoing Executive Committee members of 2014 team, Manohara Chillara and Dr. Lakshmi Mandava were recognized.
The highlight of the program included playback singers from India, Manasa Acharya, Naren Doddapaneni sang fast and melody numbers and comedians Srinivas Reddy and Satyam Rajesh entertained the audience with funny skits.
The guests relished authentic Telugu Sankranthi Vindu Bhojanam served during the dinner break. Indian flag and the newly designed TLCA flag have been hoisted celebrating the 66th Republic Day.
Associate Director, Ramesh Chand Arigapudi was among the various dignitaries present at the event. Treasurer Srinivas Guduru submitted the 2014 financials in his Treasurer report. Secretary Satya Challapalli proposed vote of thanks. It was an unforgettable evening of eight hours of enjoyment!
