Inauguration of Community CCTV at Malakpet, Hyderabad Hyderabad, May 31: As it is well known that the State Govt. has resolved to make Hyderabad a Global, Smart, Safe and Secure City. In this direction Hyderabad City Police Commissionerate has taken up a number of steps like Advanced Motorised Patrols with GPS tracking system, Digital Petition Management System, Face Book page to all Police Stations, Hawk Eye with number of applications for citizen safety particularly to working women etc.
One more step towards prevention of crime and as a tool for reducing fear of crime among the people, Hyderabad City Commissionerate has taken up community CCTV Project in a big way. The community CCTV project is envisaged to cover all Junctions, Colonies, Apartments, Business Establishments, Educational Institutions, all Temples, Mosques, Churches, Parks, Place of Entertainments, Function Halls, Multiplexes, Cinema Theatres, Places of Mass transit, Bus stations, Railway Stations, all Offices etc. It is not out of place to mention here that Establishments as defined in the act, AP Public Safety (Measures) Enforcement Act-2013 and Rules-2014, it is obligation on their part to install CCTV as per the specifications laid down in the rules.
Tirumala Hills in the limits of P.S. Malakpet to pioneer the community CCTV and Safe Colony project with installation of 8 CCTV cameras and 6 gates. The colony profile is about 150 families living with Six entry / Exits around the colony. Boom Barricades have been erected at six entry/exits while all six entry/exit points have been provided with CCTV cameras.
There is a CCTV monitoring panel made available to the community for continuous vigil by community itself. The camera feeds are also made accessible to the members of the Residents Association on the need basis on their cell phone on 24 X 7 basis.
Thus, we have empowered the community in enhancing the safety and security of their own colony and neighbourhood through CCTV and safe colony concept.
Further at a number of places like, Badi Chowdi Sultanbazar, Saibaba Temple lane DD Colony Amberpet, the installation of CCTV cameras is on the verge of completion in East Zone. Similarly at number of places in other Zones installation of CCTV Cameras are in various stages of completion.
It is planned to cover 60 to 70 percent of the Hyderabad City area with CCTV Cameras within a span of 6 to 9 months with the involvement of communities.
