Singapore model for Seemandhra capital Hyderabad : The development of a modern capital city in Seemandhra on the lines of Singapore City has emerged as a key manifesto issue for the parties in contention for power.
While Telugu Desam Party and YSR Congress Party, the two formidable political players in the region, have already promised to build a modern capital as beautiful as Singapore, the ruling Congress is yet to come up with any major announcement in this regard.
The capital city issue has become an election agenda as it would be an immediate necessity for the residuary Andhra Pradesh. As per the AP Reorganisation Act, Hyderabad would be a common capital for Telangana and residuary AP for a period of 10 years after which it would become a permanent capital of the Telangana State.The Centre has formed a committee to select the city that would house the new capital and several names are in the reckoning.
Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Ongole, Donakonda, Macherla and Kurnool are under consideration. The committee appointed by the Centre would choose one of them within the next six months
Then, the responsibility of building thenew capital would fall on the shoulders of the new government in Andhra Pradesh. Comparisons will surely be made with Hyderabad.
Seemandhra people want a capital city with all the modern facilities on par with Hyderabad. TDP chief NChandrababu Naidu has promised to develop Seemandhra like Singapore while YSRCP president YS Jaganmohan Reddy said promised to build the best capital city in the world.Both parties are trying to lure the voters with their promises on the issue of new capital.
Jagan went a step further and cited the biography of the Father of Singapore Lee Kuan Yew on how he turned Singapore into a world-class city. If reports are to be believed, he is even negotiating with an international consultancy company for this purpose.
