Modi denied venues for public meet HYDERABAD: The much publicised public meeting of BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in Hyderabad has run into rough weather with the party state leadership finding it difficult to get a suitable venue for the mega-event.
Modi will be addressing a series of meetings in Telangana, including one in Hyderabad on April 22.
The BJP wanted to hold the public meeting at Secunderabad Parade Grounds or Gymkhana Ground, but the defence authorities refused permission.
The popular venue for public meetings in the city, Nizam College Grounds is out of bounds as the Election Commission has stocked poll-related material in the college. The LB Stadium is under renovation.
The saffron party leaders are working overtime to find a suitable venue where TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, actor and Jana Sena party founder Pawan Kalyan and senior BJP leaders would be addressing the meeting along with Modi.
Apart from these places, there is no other location in the city where a large number of people could assemble. Hence, the saffron party leaders are having sleepless nights. With just two days left for the meeting, tension is mounting on the state leadership to find suitable place.
Party Telangana unit chief G Kishan Reddy said his team is looking for a suitable venue for the meeting. 'We would finalise the venue in a day or two,' he said.
He said Modi would be addressing public meetings at 1 pm at Nizamabad, 2.15 pm at Karimnagar, 4 pm at Mahbubnagar and at 5 pm in Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, BJP president Rajnath Singh would be addressing a series of meetings at Adilabad, Nizamabad and Warangal on April 26. Party leader Sushma Swaraj would address meetings at Warangal, Nizamabad and Bhongir.
