AP government defers crop loan waiver to Oct 29 HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh farmers, who are eagerly waiting for the implementation of crop loan waiver scheme so as to avail fresh farm loans, will have to wait for another week to get themselves relieved of debt burden.
Despite AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu's earlier promise that his government would begin implementing the loan waiver on the eve of Diwali, AP government has postponed the debt waiver execution till Oct 29.
The reason is that some of the banks have not submitted total records of the borrowers to the government to weed out 'bogus borrowers', who had availed crop loans from various banks for the same crop.
According to sources, some of the banks including (SBI) have not submitted the total list of borrowers, who had taken agricultural loans from the respective banks, to the government.
'Of all the banks, SBI is the lead banker which had given 90 per cent of the loans to farmers. But, the bank has submitted data of only 15.6 lakh accounts of farmers out of the 30 lakh accounts it has got in all its branches. That means, the bank will have to provide the details of another 50 per cent of accounts,'' sources said.
Hence, the government's efforts to process validation of various accounts by matching them with Aadhar numbers, ration cards and details of agricultural lands, hold by concerned farmers, to eliminate bogus borrowers have taken a beating for now.
The official, who is supervising the 'elimination process of bogus borrowers' disclosed that the state government could complete the entire process and release the list of beneficiaries of loan waiver only after October 28.
