Lokesh for a bigger role in TDP HYDERABAD: At a time when some of its seniors are deserting the TDP in Telangana in search of greener pastures, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu's son Nara Lokesh said ongoing desertions in the party would not affect its future.
'Leaders are leaving the party, but the cadre is still with the party. There is nothing to worry as in last three decades of the party history many leaders have left but the cadre remained with it. We will create new and loyal leaders,' the young politico said.
Amidst allegations that he was sidelining senior party leaders in Telangana and trying to take control of the party, Naidu's son denied his interference in party affairs in the new State. 'If working for party workers' welfare is playing a dominant role, then I do not mind doing so', he asserted.
Indicating that he is all set to play a key role in the party in the coming days, Lokesh addressed his maiden press conference in the NTR Trust Bhavan, the TDP's headquarters, here.
'Our aim is to have our party's presence in all the States where sizeable Telugu-speaking population are residing,'' he said. 'I am only interested in the development of the party and welfare of the party cadres.
In fact I have never attended any party meeting nor have visited secretariat. So on what basis people are accusing me of interfering in the party affairs?' he asked.
Replying to a question, he said his immediate target was to strengthen the party in both the states and not to contest the 2019 polls.
Lokesh said the party would conduct membership drive online instead of traditional hand written slips henceforth. The party has set a target of 25 lakh active member this time.
